The York Knights kicked off Magic Weekend in style, claiming their first-ever win at the event by beating the Huddersfield Giants 36-24. Both teams came into the match near the bottom of the Super League table, so fans knew it would be a close fight.

From the opening whistle, the Knights showed they meant business. They scored early and kept the pressure on the Giants’ defense, setting the tone for an exciting game.

First Half: York Sets the Pace

York came out firing and put points on the board quickly. Their attack was sharp, and they moved the ball well to find gaps in the Giants’ line. Within the first 20 minutes, the Knights had a solid lead that forced Huddersfield to play catch-up.

The Giants struggled to stop York’s momentum. Every time they seemed to get a stop, the Knights found a way to break through and add more points.

Huddersfield Fights Back

But the Giants didn’t give up. They rallied before halftime, scoring two quick tries to cut the deficit. The home crowd got behind them, and suddenly it was a one-score game.

  • Huddersfield’s first try came from a powerful run down the sideline.
  • Their second try was a result of a clever kick that bounced perfectly for a winger.
  • Both scores came within five minutes of each other, swinging the momentum.

At the break, the Knights led by just six points, and the second half promised more drama.

Second Half: York Takes Control

York came out of the locker room with renewed energy. They tightened up their defense and started controlling the tempo of the game. A key interception led to a try that stretched the lead back to double digits.

Huddersfield tried to respond, but every time they got close, the Knights made a big tackle or forced a turnover. In the final 10 minutes, York added another try to seal the win and send their fans home happy.

A Win That Matters for York

This victory gives the Knights a huge boost in confidence and moves them up the Super League standings. For a team that has been struggling, beating a fellow bottom-dweller on the big stage of Magic Weekend is exactly what they needed.

With this performance, York showed they can compete and win when it counts. The rest of the season just got a lot more interesting for them.
