Joe Schmidt, who is finishing up as Australia’s head coach, says he has no interest in coaching another national team. He also made it clear that a return to his old club, Leinster, is not happening right now.

Why He Won’t Go Back to International Rugby

Schmidt has spent years coaching top teams, including the Irish national side and the Wallabies. But he says the intense pressure of test match rugby has taken its toll. He explained that he wants to step back and spend more time with his family.

  • He feels the travel and time away from home are too much.
  • He believes younger coaches deserve a chance to lead international sides.
  • He wants to avoid the non-stop grind of the international calendar.

What About Leinster? Not for Now

Fans have wondered if Schmidt might return to Leinster, where he had great success as a coach. But he said a return is not in his plans at the moment. He left the door slightly open for the future, but made it clear he is not thinking about it now.

Schmidt helped Leinster win multiple titles before moving on to coach Ireland. Still, he says he needs a break from the club game as well.

What’s Next for One of Rugby’s Top Coaches?

Schmidt isn’t retiring completely, but he will take some time off. He might do some consulting work or watch matches as a fan, but he won’t take a full-time coaching role anytime soon. For now, he is happy to hand over the reins to the next generation of coaches.
