This weekend, every rugby league match at all levels will include two special hydration breaks. The Rugby Football League announced the change to help players stay safe and perform their best in the very hot weather expected.

Each break will last just 90 seconds. Teams can use this time to drink water, cool down, and catch their breath without losing the flow of the game.

Officials will add the breaks at a natural pause in play. The first break will happen around the 20-minute mark of the first half, and the second will come near the 20-minute mark of the second half.
