Manchester United’s pre-season starts even before the World Cup final ends. Since many top players are still away on international duty or resting, a lot of first-team spots are open. That means younger players from the academy get a rare chance to show what they can do on the big stage.

Midfielders Ready to Grab Their Chance

Two young midfielders are especially worth watching. James Garner, who spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest, brings calm passing and smart defending. Zidane Iqbal, an 18-year-old with strong dribbling skills, could turn heads with his energy and creativity.

  • James Garner – composed, good at breaking up play and starting attacks
  • Zidane Iqbal – quick feet, creative passing, fearless on the ball

Forwards and Defenders on the Rise

Up front, Alejandro Garnacho is a speedy winger who has already scored for the first team. His pace and direct running make him a constant threat. In defense, Alvaro Fernandez is a left-back who loves to push forward and deliver dangerous crosses.

Another name to know is Charlie McNeill, a striker who scores goals for fun at youth level. He could get minutes if the senior forwards are still resting. All these players have the skills to make a strong case for more first-team action this season.

What This Pre-Season Means for United’s Future

Pre-season is more than just fitness work. For these youngsters, it’s a real audition. Manager Erik ten Hag will be watching closely to see who can handle the pressure and earn a spot in the squad. If any of these young players shine, they could become regulars at Old Trafford sooner than expected.
